The legendary Messerschmitt Me 262—the first operational jet fighter aircraft ever to be deployed. They were too few in number and arrived too late to be able to turn the tide. Yet for one last time the Luftwaffe earned itself due respect in its own air space. In addition, from 18th March 1945 it demonstrated the world’s first successful use of an unguided air-to-air missile specifically developed for this purpose (the R4M).
